Don’t Get Too Carried Away With The Kirk Cousins Injury

The Vikings injury report featured an unusual name in the injury list: Kirk Cousins. The QB1 is battling a rib injury.

Cousins has a Cal Ripken-like longevity. He missed a game in 2019 because the team was already locked into their playoff spot, not because he needed to miss due to being hurt. Otherwise, the man has consistently found himself under center when he’s had the chance to do so.

There are other names included on the injury report: “Guard Mason Cole (elbow) was listed as not participating. Quarterback Kirk Cousins (ribs), linebacker Eric Kendricks (low back), receiver Adam Thielen (ankle), fullback C.J. Ham (hamstring) and running back Alexander Mattison (not injury related) were listed as limited. Running back Dalvin Cook (shoulder) was listed as a full participant.”

Nevertheless, the name that is getting all the injury attention is Mr. Kirk Cousins. It’s always notable when a team’s $31 million man is limited in practice, especially when that player is the QB. Be that as it may, there isn’t too much reason to be concerned. Cousins is a 99.9% certainty to be on the field Sunday.

The greater risk, at least to my small brain, rests in the test that awaits. The Rams will be putting Von Miller, Leonard Floyd, and Aaron Donald onto the field. What are the chances Minnesota’s OL can hold them off? If Klint Kubiak calls the game like he did against Chicago, then the Cousins rib injury may get considerably worse.
