Browns Stars to Start in Fantasy Versus the Vikings

The Browns have been one of the more star-studded lineups over the past couple years. These names have brought with them success that Cleveland has not seen in years. That said, how many should be starting in fantasy lineups this week against the Vikings?

Baker Mayfield- Sit

The Browns aren’t much of a pass-first offense as it is, but running the ball should be an especially large part of the game plan this week.

We can get into more details specifically about Minnesota’s run defense later on, but their pass rush also attributes to this reasoning. Danielle Hunter has been every bit of his old self through three games, and Everson Griffen has provided a nice boost from the other side.

In addition, Michael Pierce continues to be a dominant force from the interior. Between these three, it could be a tough day for Mayfield, who hasn’t been the best passer while under pressure.

Nick Chubb- Start

Nick Chubb was held scoreless against Chicago, but that was the first time that has happened all season. His carry numbers just continue to go up as the season progresses as well, earning himself 22 last week.

It’s also noteworthy that the Vikings haven’t been the best against the run this year. In week 1, Joe Mixon had his way against Minnesota’s defense, and Chris Carson could have ended up with a very good game if Seattle’s defense didn’t let the Vikings get back into the game. Chubb is worth a start on pure volume.

Kareem Hunt- Start

I know, we just got talking about how Nick Chubb should start because he will get the majority of the carries. So where does that leave room for Kareem Hunt to perform?

Well, what Hunt may lack in carries, he makes up for in passing targets. Hunt has always been a proficient receiver out of the backfield, and it showed up once again last week against Chicago. If what I just said about Minnesota’s pass rush proves true, Mayfield should be checking down to Hunt often once again this week.

Odell Beckham Jr.- Sit

OBJ had a solid week during his season debut following his ACL year in 2020. However, he did suffer another injury scare by dislocating his shoulder. He’s been a full participant in practice this week, so he seems ready to go, but it’s something to be wary of.

On top of that, as I’ve been beating like a dead horse this whole article, the Browns should be running the ball this week. The Vikings are allowing nearly five yards per carry, and their missed tackle problems could return again versus two slippery backs. Beckham Jr. may be set to be WR1 for the Browns, but I think there are better options for fantasy teams.
