Breaking News: Kirk Cousins Tests Positive for Covid, Will Miss SNF Against Packers

Well, this one mostly felt like it was just a matter of time with the numbers climbing. Kirk Cousins, according to The Athletic‘s Chad Graff, has tested positive for Covid-19:

On the eve of a game the Vikings need to win to keep their playoff hopes alive, Kirk Cousins, who is unvaccinated, tested positive for COVID-19, per a source. He won’t be able to play in Green Bay tomorrow night.

The “tomorrow night” portion of Graff’s tweet must be an error. The Vikings play in a couple days. Even still, Kirk Cousins won’t be able to play because of the Covid-19 result.

Mike Zimmer made multiple pleas to his team’s star players to get vaccinated. Unvaccinated players have been around seven times more likely to land on the COVID/Reserve list.

So Zimmer feared losing his most important players when it mattered most. Now that fear is realized.

The team will therefore be leaning on Sean Mannion, Kellen Mond, or recently-signed Kyle Sloter. In other words, the Vikings will almost certainly lose to the Packers, thereby bringing the playoff hopes to a close.
