What To Look For: WEEK 1

We are five days away until kickoff of the Viking’s 2018 season, and expectations are the highest they have been in recent memory. The offense looks to build on their success from last year with new quarterback Kirk Cousins. While the defense looks to continue their dominance under head coach Mike Zimmer. It is a very exciting time for the people of Minnesota, and for good reason. US Bank Stadium will be rocking on Sunday, and lets hope our beloved Vikings come out on top. The squad starts the season taking on the San Francisco 49ers, a team that will give our squad a good early test.

Some things I will be looking forward to seeing:

Dalvin Cook’s return:

It will be interesting to see how much work second year running back Dalvin Cook will see during his first full game back from his ACL injury. The star running back has looked great so far in practice, and in team drills, but showing the same during a real game is his next step. We have seen many great players come back from serious knee injuries, such as, Adrian Peterson and Tom Brady. I believe Dalvin Cook is no exception, as he has looked tremendous throughout the entire off season.

Kirk Cousins’ Debut:

This is most likely what every Vikings fan is looking forward to the most. The new captain in town is Kirk Cousins, and the Twin Cities is filled with excitement waiting to see their new signal caller in live action. Cousins is an above average quarterback with a very good arm. This is the best quarterback we have had under center since Brett Favre in 2009.

The Offensive Line:

The offensive line has a been a big question mark the last few years. The front office has done a decent job to improve it. Before the 2017 season, they signed Riley Reiff and Mike Remmers, and then just last week they traded for Brett Jones. The staff has made it a point of emphasis to improve the men in the trenches.  So far this preseason, the offensive line has looked formidable. At times, they protect the quarterback really well, and also open up lanes for our running backs. Lets hope to see continued  improvement all year long from our big guys up front.

Kicker Daniel Carlson:

Our best friends in Minnesota. Kickers. I won’t even mention the names of the other kickers that have broken our hearts into millions of pieces, but rookie kicker Daniel Carlson hope to keep our hearts intact for the foreseeable future. Carlson has had an up and down preseason, as he had a great game in Denver, and a not so great game vs Jacksonville. One thing that I enjoyed seeing, is that he nailed both of his field goal attempts vs Tennessee in the final preseason game. Lets hope that success continues into the regular season.

Thanks for reading everyone. This is my first article here on purpleptsd.com and I hope there are many more articles to come! SKOL!
