Vikings Trim Roster to 85 Players

The Minnesota Vikings have announced that they’ve trimmed their roster down to 85 players.

Per the team’s website, Minnesota has opted to cut Amari Henderson (CB), Blake Proehl (WR), Riley Patterson (K), Turner Bernard (LS), and Jordan Brailford (DE). It’s always unfortunate when players fail to make the final roster; none of the moves are particularly surprising, though. Patterson had a shot to be the Vikings kicker, but he has battled injury throughout training camp. Proehl showed promise. A recent knee injury, though, will keep him out for the season.

Unless the Minnesota Vikings make a surprise signing, Greg Joseph will be the purple kicker in 2021. It’s an incredibly difficult job. Our kickers are collectively cursed, so Joseph joins the illustrious ranks of kickers who will try to finally defeat this curse. My hope is that he can offer some much-needed stability.

These moves suggest Minnesota’s leadership hasn’t overreacted to the first preseason game, which is a good thing. The players who really struggled against Denver have more time to show the coaching staff that they belong.

Minnesota will play the Colts this Saturday night.
