Recent Pre-Draft Visit Hints At a Possible Trade Up

If the Vikings remain at 12th overall, they’re unlikely to get Travon Walker.
That reality hasn’t stopped them from bringing in the stud EDGE for a pre-draft visit. According to Ben Standig of The Athletic, the Vikings brought in the Georgia defender. The cost to get high into the top 10 is likely prohibitive, but one wonders about making a move to get somewhere within the 8-10 range. Last year, the Eagles pulled off a similar move for a more manageable price:
The Vikings would be hoping that Travon Walker could complement the Smith & Hunter gruesome twosome. Having someone to give them rest would pay dividends throughout the year, especially if a playoff push does occur. Walker could also be another weapon on obvious passing downs, allowing Minnesota to put three stud rushers on the field at one time.
According to The Draft Network, Walker is the 11th-best prospect in this year’s draft. That evaluation suggests he could reasonably be available around the 12th pick, though the recent buzz is that he could even go in the top 3. At this point, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him taken anywhere in that top 10. What would be more surprising is seeing him drop out of the top 10.
He’s 6’5, 270 and coming from one of college’s best programs. He put up good-but-not-great stats, though, so teams are banking on the hope that he will keep ascending. Last year, he only had 6 sacks. The year before simply had one lonely sack. Some see All Pro potential as a reason to possibly make a move.
In other words, talent evaluators believe that he can become a sensational player in the NFL. That belief in his potential is largely driving the pre-draft hype. The Vikings are among those who are interested in drafting Travon Walker, but doing so might require them to move out some draft capital to bring him to town.
