Following the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ playoff loss to the Dallas Cowboys this past season, Tom Brady announced that he would officially be retiring “for good” from the NFL. This was the second consecutive offseason that he had made the announcement, but obviously, he went back on his word the first time, making an announcement just 42 days later that he would be returning for his 23rd NFL season.

Naturally, the same types of rumors began popping up in the days and weeks following his latest retirement. Just this week, Rich Eisen offered up the possibility that Brady could come out of retirement once again in 2023.

However, less than 24 hours later, Brady himself took to Twitter and offered a hilarious rebuttal to these rumors. In his tweet he stated, “Anyone who thinks I have time to come back to the NFL has never adopted a 2 month old kitten for their daughter.”

It appears that the GOAT is doubling down on his retirement for now, and the 45-year-old has family at the forefront of his mind heading into this spring.

Brady has very little left to prove at the NFL level, so this is an unsurprising response. His seven Super Bowl rings are more than any player has ever won as well as more than any single NFL franchise can claim to their name. He also holds NFL records for career pass completions, pass attempts, passing yards, passing TDs, comebacks, and game-winning drives.

Regardless, his borderline-psychotic competitive edge that brought him so much success means that there will always be rumors that he could make another return to the NFL. At this point in time, it would not be surprising at all either way if he chose to ride into retirement or make a comeback to the NFL.
