Jeremy Chinn Torches Vikings and leaves fans wondering what could’ve been…

In a record setting performance this past Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, Carolina Panthers cornerback Jeremy Chinn burst out onto the NFL stage in a big way. The previously unsung rookie finally got the attention he deserved after a game in which he not only recorded a career high 13 tackles, but also became the first player in the Super Bowl era to record two fumble recovery touchdowns in the same game. This feat is made even more impressive by the fact that Chinn accomplished it on back to back plays, with his two defensive touchdowns in ten seconds of game time being the fastest in NFL history. Chinn’s performance this past weekend has only served to bolster his campaign for defensive rookie of the year.

Jeremy Chinn was selected by the Panthers with the 64th pick in the NFL draft. Despite coming out of a generally unknown school in Southern Illinois, Chinn’s breakout combine performance had him rocketing up draft boards, with some reports stating that Chinn might even hear his name called on day one of the draft. Ultimately, Chinn went in the second round, the third player selected by the Panthers behind Yetur Gross-Matos out of Penn State, as well as Derrick Brown out of Auburn.

Chinn’s performance against Minnesota this past Sunday has this Vikings fan wondering what might have been. The Vikes took TCU alum Jeff Gladney in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft in order to bolster their depleted secondary. While Gladney has had a stellar rookie campaign, racking up two pass defenses as a regular starter for Minnesota’s lagging defense, one cannot help but wonder what might have happened if the Vikings decided to take a chance on the small school phenom in Chinn instead of Gladney.
