The Vikings Address the Interior O-Line

It’s been a position of need for years, but the Minnesota Vikings have seemingly found their solution at right guard. After a very underwhelming season from Oli Udoh and the unknowns surrounding Wyatt Davis, it seemed inevitable that Minnesota would elect to address this area of the field at some point. They did just that in the second round.

With the 59th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Minnesota selected LSU OG Ed Ingram.

Ingram is not an elite athletic body by any means. However, this is less important given that he has less ground to cover on the interior offensive line. On the other hand, the former Tiger is as solid as a rock. He is very difficult to push around in the middle of the offense. His draft stock rose mostly due to his technically-sound play, especially in the running game.

The Vikings need someone on the interior that can help open up some running lanes for Dalvin Cook, so this ability is clearly intriguing. However, Minnesota has also allowed a ton of pressures on Kirk Cousins from the interior, so someone that can help keep the pocket clean is imperative.

If Ingram’s run-blocking is good, then his pass protection is terrific. He constantly keeps his feet moving and delivers blows that throw defensive linemen off track. At the end of the day, I think this is the ability that really got Ingram selected by the Vikings here in the second round. It gives the Vikings a very promising group of young, talented offensive linemen highlighted by Christian Darrisaw, Brian O’Neill, Ezra Cleveland, and now Ingram.

The Vikings next pick is at No. 66.
