Teddy to Return to Practice Wednesday

Fresh off of a wave of articles stating that the Vikings should retain Case Keenum as their starter regardless of who is healthy and when (both on purplePTSD.com and across local and national outlets) the Vikings announced yesterday that Teddy Bridgewater would be returning to practice this week, Wednesday to be specific. Considering the fact that it’s only been 14 months since Bridgewater nearly lost his career and leg to a non-contact injury at Winter Park, his return is nothing if not amazing and just in the nick of time. Sure, Keenum has played admirably in Teddy/Bradford’s stead but this team can’t win a Super Bowl when it has a quarterback who is overthrowing receivers left and right and while Keenum may be the better deep ball passer between the two, Teddy is the more consistent and it’s because of that that he’d get the nod if it were up to me. Now, if you were to throw Bradford into that mix, I’d take Bradford, but considering he’s still a week or two from returning and you get the general conundrum.

But back to Teddy. He visited with his surgeon on Monday and needed his approval to practice, and received just that, per an announcement from Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer who said: “We’re not going to dose him out,” according to Fox Sports. Which, I’m not necessarily sure what that even means but he continued:

“It’s a great deal for Teddy,” which didn’t add any clarity to the situation, either and if anything just confuses me even more. Zimmer continued: “We’ll take it one day at a time just like we have the last 14 months.” Which sounds like the exact opposite of dosing him out, but, what do I know? Okay, taking things one day at a time actually does make sense so I guess we just have to disregard his first two statements? Seriously, check out the Fox Sports article and tell me where I’m wrong. Either way, while some people may believe that Teddy could play before the Bye (againts the Ravens or Browns, for example), the reality is that being cleared for practice is still a ways out from being cleared for a game (and it may not even count against his current contract, meaning that he’s still not on the 53-man roster). So, for the time being the Vikings are still “stuck” with Keenum and Bradford and considering that people are saying that this is Keenum’s team now and that the Vikings could even pull a Dilfer-lead Ravens and win a Super Bowl, it’s really not the worst situation in the world.
