TDN Mock Sends Trent McDuffie to Vikings…In Second Round

Well, I haven’t seen this one yet. There are a lot of mock drafts out there, and I don’t think I’ve seen any that involve seeing McDuffie go to Minnesota in the second. Sometimes, he’ll last into the 20s, but even that feels notable. Some view him as a top-10 choice, so seeing the Minnesota Vikings land Trent McDuffie at 46th is notable.

In fairness, author Kyle Crabbs defines his two-round mock as his “What I Would Do Mock.” The point isn’t to forecast what will happen but, rather, for Crabbs to outline what he thinks makes sense.

When Minnesota arrives at the 12th pick, Crabbs opts for Devonte Wyatt, someone who has been getting some love here on Purple PTSD. Josh included him as the choice in the VT/PTSD collected mock before following up with a piece on his Vikings visit. Crabbs thinks Wyatt would partner well with Minnesota’s elite EDGE duo: “Because I haven’t forgotten Minnesota’s long quest for a penetration defender in the middle. Think about Wyatt, who played all over the front in Georgia, stepping in and playing next to either Za’Darius Smith or Danielle Hunter and rushing the passer? That changes the entire dynamic of the front.”

Opting for the 3T is fine by me if that’s who the Vikings’ leadership actually think is the best option. He’d be a really nice complement to the front-seven talent that’s already present.

That being said, one has to assume that picking Wyatt in that spot means the Vikings will miss out on Trent McDuffie. Not in this mock.

Minnesota gets their man 46th overall, an insane value. Now, we need to reiterate that the author isn’t trying to predict how things will shake out. He’s very clear that he’s simply going with the fit he thinks is best. For this reason, McDuffie slides all the way to the middle of the second. Folks, don’t count on this one occurring in actual draft.

McDuffie is a strong prospect. The main knock appears to be his size. If he actually is available heading into RD2, the Vikings would be wise to make a move.
