Sheldon Richardson leads the Vikings defense in quarterback hits

Sheldon Richardson, #93, pressuring 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Richardson ending up sacking Garoppolo once while hitting him three times.

The Vikings are 1-2-1 after a 38-31 loss to the Rams, but at least they didn’t get blown out this time.

Onto more positive news, new defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson has been phenomenal this season, and he leads the defense in quarterback hits with 8 after four games. He has more than Danielle Hunter, who has 4 (these do not include hits negated by penalties).

Richardson’s 8 quarterback hits are tied with Buccaneers defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul for second behind Eagles defensive tackle Fletcher Cox, who has 9. JPP and Cox have played three games to Richardson’s four, however, so they could definitely rack up more hits to their collections. Still, Richardson deserves a ton of praise.

With linebacker Anthony Barr struggling massively this season, most fans have preferred the Vikings spend their money on extending Sheldon Richardson and letting Barr walk. If this keeps up, that should most definitely happen, because Richardson is looking like a steal and a bright spot on a mostly struggling defense.
