Hughes trade is a head-scratcher or sign of a pending FA CB acquisition.

Holy acronyms Batman!

In what officially caps an off-season that will be remembered (partially) as being absolutely nightmarish in terms of a single NFL franchises return on their investment for former first-round cornerbacks, the Vikings have officially traded the oft-injured 2018 first-rounder to the Kansas City Chiefs along with a 7th-round pick for… A sixth-round pick. When you combine that with the fact that 2020 first-rounder Jeff Gladney’s career is likely over, and you’ll thank your lucky stars that the Vikings signed Patrick Peterson this off-season.

The Gladney moves does make this move a bit of a head-scratcher, though, as the Vikings are dangerously thin at corner courtesy of Gladney’s… Ahem… Personal problems. Sure, the Vikings are reportedly saving $1.8 million in cap space (with $1.3 million in dead cap), but you have to wonder if Hughes may have been more valuable as a depth piece than anyone they’d be able to pick up with that amount.

It isn’t as if while healthy Hughes had been awful, either. Clearly, otherwise why would any team want to trade for him on a rental deal in the first place? But if I know anything it’s that the Vikings and their fearless leader Mike Zimmer has a plan for the cornerback position and so we here at UFFda! Sports fully expect to cover a free agency signing in the next week or so for Purple Odin’s favorite position.
