Making sense of the All-Pro accolades and snubs [Diggs/Jefferson/Cook/Kendricks, etc.]

Is there anything I can’t do?

Don’t answer that.

The Minnesota Vikings may not spoil it’s fans in terms of winning actual championships, or when it comes to boat etiquette, but we are actually pretty spoiled when it comes to the talent that we fall ass-backward into every couple years. Cris Carter was in the midst of his stat have ‘90’s (back-to-back 122 catch seasons in that era of the NFL?!?) when Randy Moss was overlooked by 20 teams before the Vikes landed him.

Adrian Peterson? Percy Harvin? Adam Thielen? Stefon Diggs? Dalvin Cook? Robert Smith? And now Justin Jefferson, who had one of the best Super Bowl era rookie seasons of any wide receiver, period.

We all knew that weeks ago, but it didn’t hurt that he broke the modern era record for yards by a rookie (1,400), and also the great Randy Moss’ record for rookie receptions. But, what do those in the national media think of JJettas?

Spoiler Alert: They agree.

Will Ragatz of SportsIllustrated.com says:

“Vikings record-breaking rookie receiver Justin Jefferson was named a second-team All-Pro by the Associated Press on Friday. He received five votes, finishing behind first-team honorees Stefon Diggs, Tyreek Hill, and Davante Adams as well as fellow second-team finisher DeAndre Hopkins.”

While I’m sure there’s some click generating machine of an article there about the Diggs v. Jefferson angle, I’m going to focus more on the positive and the fact that as a rookie (who wasn’t part of the game plan until Week 3) made the second All-Pro team, something Diggs didn’t do until essentially the entire Bills offense ran through him specifically like some sort of wide receiver version of Adrian Peterson.

“Jefferson was the only NFL rookie named to either the first or second team and was one of just two to receive any votes (the other being Tampa Bay OL Tristan Wirfs). Other than Jefferson, the only Viking to receive any votes was Eric Kendricks, who finished eighth in voting among linebackers.”

The fact that Cook and/or Smith received ZERO votes is a travesty, though. I recently wrote an article covering former Vikings head coach (who is part of the sprawling purpleTERRITORY Media family) Mike Tice’s take on NFL Hall of Fame voting, and considering that only 50 (I’m presuming it’s the same one-per-market “logic” the Hall uses) media members vote on the above, I’m sure most of what I lay out here still applies:
