One of the questions that arose in today’s press conference with Kwesi Adofo-Mensah was whether the Vikings would pursue a trade.

Adofo-Mensah spent the opening moments of his press conference praising his staff for all the hard work they’ve done. In an offseason full of charming press conferences, Adofo-Mensah again endeared himself to listeners by being so outspoken with his praise for others.

It didn’t take long for a question about trades to arise. “We’re always calling teams,” Kwesi Adofo-Mensah explained when asked about a trade, “and getting their thoughts.” He indicates that “every GM is involved” and that “we’ve had some great conversations […] Ultimately, we’re ready to do whatever is presented to us.” Minnesota will be ready to either pick an impact player at 12 or pull off a trade if the right one arrives.

The follow-up question was about trading back. He notes that “the draft is an auction,” emphasizing that different teams have different evaluations. KAM insists that his team will be ready for the team that wants to trade up. The Vikings have been running through various scenarios so they can make the best decision possible when the opportunity presents itself.

There has been no shortage of digital ink being spilled on the idea of a trade. The Houston Texans – given that they sit at 13th – might be the key to a sizeable draft haul. Kansas City is rumored to be interested in a trade up, just as Jerry Jones and his Cowboys may look to move up the board. There have been similar rumblings surrounding the Chargers and Steelers (among others).

The Vikings have needs at various spots on the roster. All parts of the defense could use a talent infusion, and the offensive line certainly needs more help. Kwesi Adofo-Mensah will thus use all the tools at his disposal – including analytics – to make the best decision possible, one that may even involve a trade up or down.
