It won’t be long before Harrison Phillips is a fan favorite in Minnesota.

For good reason, a lot of the focus has been on the team workouts. It’s our first chance to see Kevin O’Connell get started with his team. The voluntary workouts have featured notable Vikings. Danielle Hunter, Kirk Cousins, Justin Jefferson, Za’Darius Smith, Harrison Smith, and Eric Kendricks are all present.

Harrison Phillips, of course, is also working out with his new team. It’s his work outside the weight room that ought to be getting our attention, though:

Phillips didn’t waste any time when it comes to making a difference in his new community. Clearly, it’s a priority for him to donate his time to worthwhile endeavours. He could have easily just focused on his work with the Vikings and then his personal life. We should be thankful he didn’t.

Bills fans were sad to see Phillips leave for Minnesota. When a fanbase is sad to see a player go, it tells you something. The DT made an impression on Buffalo fans, one that was likely the combination of both on-field play and great off-field work. He was Buffalo’s nominee for Walter Payton Man of the Year last season. He was their nominee in 2020, as well.

Harrison Phillips is going to be an important part of the Vikings defense in 2022. He’ll partner with Dalvin Tomlinson as the two starting DTs. Armon Watts will also get plenty of snaps. Those three will be tasked with keeping their linebackers clean as they work to frustrate RBs and collapse the pocket.

While all of this on-field play is important, none of it can compare to the off-field work that has already begun. Well done, Mr. Phillips.
