Everson Griffen is officially back with the Vikings. It was always the likeliest outcome. Perhaps the greatest mystery now rests in whether he’ll be able to get his old number back. From there, it’ll be fascinating to see how many snaps he gets. I expect him to be productive on third downs. His PFF pass rush score was still strong last season.

Otherwise, the Vikings announced that they’ve placed Dan Chisena, Kene Nwangwu, and Irv Smith Jr. on the IR. It certainly appears as though Smith is done for the year. If we make a deep playoff run, maybe he could return.

Minnesota also brought back Andrew DePaola. Our Vikings still want to be able to snap the ball on field goals and punts. The other notable move is that the team has released veteran punter Britton Colquitt. There’s some speculation out that that it’s because of interest in other punters, but my bet is that it’s more roster shenanigans. I imagine they’ll bring him back soon.

Stay tuned.
