Goessling: Teddy “Working on Accelerations and Lateral Movement” (w/o Knee Brace), Sharrif Floyd Moving Around “Well”

Two games into the pre-season and you could say that the hype surrounding the Vikings in 2017 is at the same level as the response to yesterday’s “eclipse” (at least locally). The offense has struggled to move the ball (especially in the red-zone) and the defense has given up a multitude of big plays (mostly thanks to the terrible play of second-year nickel corner Mackenzie Alexander). Despite that, though, there is some hope from a contingent of Vikings fans that someone will come from the IR/PUP and “save” the season (that hasn’t started yet). That/those person(s) is Teddy Bridgewater (and to a lesser extent Sharrif Floyd).

Both Bridgewater and Floyd had freak injuries that very well could’ve (and still could) end their careers. Bridgewater’s injury has been discussed ad nauseum (and also created nausea on the field, reportedly). Floyd had routine surgery on his leg and ended up with nerve damage and has essentially been in a wait and see approach ever since. So, the following news is really, really encouraging (thanks to Ben Goessling of ESPN):

I watched Teddy at training camp and he always had that brace on, so hearing that he’s moving around without it is a great sign (sometimes players who have those devastating injuries do rock those braces as it gives them confidence, even if they don’t technically need it). As is hearing that Floyd is moving around well, as well. While the Vikings did draft an insurance plan for Floyd in Jaleel Johnson (they also have Datone Jones), who has been playing really well so far this pre-season, getting Floyd back would be a boon to the defensive line and make them, perhaps, the deepest D-line in the league.

So, we’ll continue to cover any and all Teddy sightings but, again, it really makes no sense for the Vikings to bring him back in 2017. That is, of course, unless things go the way they typically do for the Vikings and Sam Bradford ends up on the IR as well. Hopefully with the improvements to the offensive line (on paper, and really against the Seahawks) that won’t happen, but you can never knock on enough wood when it comes to the Purple and Gold.
