George Iloka Signs With Vikings

Iloka is back … on the practice squad

Minnesota finally found the depth that they have been searching for at the top of their defense. The newest safety, George Iloka was signed to the Vikings practice squad on Thursday.

This signing will pay dividends due to the fact that there are only two active safeties on the roster. Rumors about the backup safety positions have been swirling ever since the team released four safeties during training camp.

Iloka’s name is not one commonly spoken of much in Minnesota. His past experience was rather lackluster, and many seem to believe his best days are behind him. I am curious as to what he has left in the tank.

The NFL’s new and relaxed rules for the practice squad should get plenty of more football players to work. Iloka might not be playing for the Vikings, if not for the new rule changes.

After signing in 2018, he played in all 16 games, making three starts. With the Vikings secondary being in a dramatically different situation than it was, it will be interesting to see how much he is utilized this time around. This signing won’t fix this secondary, but it might be able to give the Vikings defense peace of mind as it prepares for the long haul.
