According to Jordan Schultz of Yahoo Sports, free agent linebacker Mychal Kendricks plans to visit the Minnesota Vikings, Oakland Raiders and Cleveland Browns this week. Schulz’s source also noted Kendricks is expected to make a decision on where he will sign this week.
Kendricks, 27, is the elder brother of Vikings’ starting linebacker Eric Kendricks, who recently signed a five-year extension with the club.
Mychal has spent his entire six-year NFL career as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. Originally drafted in the second round of the 2012 draft, he was released by the team last week after refusing to take a pay cut. He had two years left on his contract and was scheduled to count $7.6 million against the Eagles’ salary cap this season.
In 74 career starts, Kendricks has 14 sacks, six forced fumbles and three interceptions.
Now, the outside linebacker could join forces with his younger brother in what would become a deep linebacker group for Minnesota. Here’s a quick look at the current Vikings LB depth chart:
Vikings linebacker depth
Strongside linebacker (Sam)
Anthony Barr (26)
Eric Wilson (23)
Antwione Williams (24)
Middle linebacker (Mike)
Eric Kendricks (26)
Kentrell Brothers (25)*SUSPENDED first four games of 2018 season*
Devante Downs (22)
Brett Taylor (23)
Weakside linebacker (Will)
Ben Gedeon (23)
Reshard Cliett (25)
Garret Dooley (23)
UPDATE: Ben Goessling of the Star Tribune reported Mychal Kendricks is in town visiting with the Vikings today (5/29/28).

Great stuff, Sean!
Can he play offensive line?!?!?
Man, they sure do love having LB’s that know one another. He’d be a great pick up, though. This is good news.

The Vikings o-line has a couple things going for it – depth and youth, which can basically be said about every position on Zimmer’s defense. Adding Mychal Kendricks would make the defense scary good and scary deep. Hope they can afford to make him a suitable offer.

This would be a huge get for the Vikings. They might not need an offensive line with the defense they are building.

I welcome the visit.
I would not call our LB group deep. I was hoping we would have kept Lamur. He was really coming on at the end of the year. We need Barr and Kendricks to stay healthy all year.

I don’t think it’s a deep group, yet. But adding Mychal Kendricks gives the Vikings three bonfadife starters (Barr, Kendricks and Kendricks) with Brothers, Wilson, and Gedeon as presumed backups. That’s pretty deep.
