Eric Kendricks was the first Minnesota Viking to be announced on the NFL’s top 100 players of this year. It was Kendricks first time on the list, and much deserved. The Vikings have had two players land between spots 55-65 in quarterback Kirk Cousins and safety Harrison Smith.

With Smith checking in as the 64th best player, that is his second highest ranking of the five straight he’s made the list. His previous positions were 83rd, 46th, 74th, and 73rd.

Last season, Smith collected 85 total tackles (65 solo, 20 assisted), 11 passes defended, one sack, three interceptions, and a career best three forced fumbles. He was a bright spot in a Vikings secondary that was often just good enough with veteran Xavier Rhodes falling of a cliff. He also formed half of the NFL’s best safety duo with Anthony Harris.

As for Kirk Cousins, he climbed up 20 spots from his 2019 ranking of 78th. Kirk, who is entering his third season as Minnesota’s franchise quarterback, completed 69.1% of his passes last season. He also threw for 3603 yards, 26 touchdowns and just six interceptions.

Cousins would have also been the first Vikings quarterback since hall-of-famer Fran Tarkenton to start two straight full seasons if not for the Vikings playing a meaningless week 17 game against the Chicago Bears. Kirk also signed a two-year contract extension this off-season that keeps him under contract through the 2022 season.
