One Sentence Power Rankings: Week 1

The 2018 NFL Season is nearly upon us, so let’s do some power rankings! Welcome to week 1 of “1 Sentence Rankings,” where we explain each team’s position using only 1 sentence.

  1. L.A. Rams: The Rams spent big in free agency to establish a team with All-Pro caliber players all over the field, both sides of the ball.
  2. Philadelphia Eagles: The defending champions got better on defense in the offseason and will have Carson Wentz returning early this season.
  3. Minnesota Vikings: The team that was 1 game shy of a Super Bowl appearance added depth all over the secondary with the drafting of Mike Hughes and signing George Iloka and I guess Kirk Cousins is pretty good too.
  4. New England Patriots: Tom Brady will throw the ball, Bill Belichick will coach the team, and that has proven to be a successful combination in this league.
  5. New Orleans Saints: The Saints have Drew Brees returning with plenty of weapons around him, and the team’s emerging defense added more pieces in the offseason and draft.
  6. Jacksonville Jaguars: Sacksonville returns, but Bortles lost key targets and teams can stack the box against Fournette.
  7. Houston Texans: Desean Watson comes back, JJ Watt comes Back, and this team looks to make a healthy run to the postseason.
  8. Pittsburgh Steelers: The 3 Bs play their final season together, and the team plans on out shooting other teams throughout the year.
  9. Atlanta Falcons: The Falcon’s have an underrated defense and their own impressive trio on offense with an MVP winning Matt Ryan, arguably the best wideout in the NFL Julio Jones, and a good running back in Devonta Freeman.
  10. Carolina Panthers: Carolina’s defense returns and should be a good unit this year, and the Panthers’ continue to give Cam Newton weapons to play with.
  11. L.A. Chargers: This team has an elite offense and an elite defense, but the kicking spot cost them a playoff spot last year and they have Caleb Sturgis to try and fix that.
  12. Green Bay Packers: The Packers have a good run defense and drafted 2 of the best corners in this year’s draft, plus 2018 is the Rodgers Revenge Tour.
  13. Denver Broncos: Denver added another talented pass rusher to help Vonn Miller, and they may have found a franchise quarterback in Case Keenum.
  14. Kansas City Chiefs: The team with the most deep threats in the NFL had a “check it down” quarterback, but upgraded to a man with a cannon for an arm, plus Eric Berry will return to help the defense.
  15. Dallas Cowboys: While the defense looks to be upgraded and Zeke will be elite, this team has a CFL level wide receiving core and an average quarterback, meaning this team relies too heavily on the health of the offensive line.
  16. Detroit Lions: Matt Stafford is still trying to be the Lions’ savior and now he has a run game and a good defense, but the Lions are in the toughest division in the NFL, the NFC North.
  17. Baltimore Ravens: The Ravens defense is upgrading and may be a top-tier unit this season, but it won’t mean much if Flacco continues to be mediocre in the regular season.
  18. San Francisco 49ers: Jimmy Garoppolo looks like an elite NFL quarterback with plenty of weapons, and the defense added pieces to take the next step, but Jerrick McKinnon tore his ACL and will miss the season meaning this team has no established running back.
  19. Tennessee: Titans: Marcus Mariota got his first playoff victory last year, they still have a good running back duo, the defense has looked good, but the wide receiving core may be too weak to be an elite team.
  20. Cincinnati Bengals: Somehow Marvin Lewis still has a job, but John Ross looked good in the preseason and the Bengals’ defense should bounce back this year.
  21. New York Giants: The Giants are hopeful this season, and are putting chips in on Eli Manning, but Saquan Barkley is unproven and the offensive line could be a major issue again.
  22. Indianapolis Colts: Andrew Luck is back, and he has shown he can take average teams to the playoffs, but honestly how long will he be healthy with no run game, defense, or offensive line?
  23. Seattle Seahawks: The Legion of Boom is dead, and the offensive line is bad, and Doug Baldwin has said his knee won’t be 100% this year, and Russel Wilson is human and can’t do everything.
  24. Washington Redskins: The Skins added Alex Smith as their big flash player this offseason, and that isn’t enough to make this team one of the better teams in the league.
  25. Chicago Bears: The Bears added a lot of talent of both sides of the ball, including a monster deal for Khalil Mack, but Trubisky is an unproven quarterback who hasn’t had a 2-touchdown game yet in his career.
  26. New York Jets: This team may be on the rise, and while they may own the AFC East in 2 years when Brady is gone, this team has a rookie quarterback and a bad offensive line and a bad defense.
  27. Arizona Cardinals: This team doesn’t officially have a rookie starting quarterback, but Sam Bradford will get hurt and we will see their rookie behind a bad offensive line and an average/bad defense.
  28. Cleveland Browns: The Browns added talent all over the offense, and their defense should take a step forward this year, and they added offensive coordinator Todd Haley to help the offensive woes. BONUS: 6 wins this year for the winless Browns.
  29. Miami Dolphins: Ryan Tannehill has torn up his knee back-to-back years, they traded Jay Ajayi last year and they let Landry go to Cleveland, and their defense is average at best.
  30. Oakland Raiders: Jon Gruden sent away the best pass rusher in the NFL and may be playing the long game to rebuild the Raiders, but this team has a great quarterback and offensive line, but a terrible defense.
  31. Buffalo Bills: No one knows who the Bills’ quarterback will be by week 4, their defense could be good again, but will likely be average and this team can’t be put on the back of the aging LeSean McCoy.
  32. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: This team was terrible last year with Jameis Winston, and they won’t have him for three weeks, so I expect them to win at most 4 games and get the number 1 pick for next year’s draft.

There they are everyone! Week 1 of my “1 Sentence Rankings.” Things could change drastically throughout the year, but this is how the NFL looks in my mind before week 1 of the NFL Season. SKOL!
