Lewis Cine and Akayleb Evans are two of the most recent Vikings draft picks, with the former arriving as a first-rounder and the latter coming through the fourth round. So far, Evans has been on the field more, but both are being relied upon as crucial special teams contributors.

Recently, the young players got the chance to give reporting a shot. Take a look at the short clip from Fox 9:

Obvioulsy, it’s great to see the Vikings involved in some important work off the field. Being a football player and performing well on Sunday is great, but we mustn’t forget how crucial it is to impact the community.

When it comes to the reporting, Lewis Cine and Akayleb Evans may benefit from a few more reps. At the beginning of the video, we can hear Evans getting some coaching for what to do. He tells Cine that they’re on live TV before offering a few comments. When he reverses things, Cine needs to be reminded to hold the mic to his mouth while he’s asking the question. Rookie mistake.

Evans – who is active on Twitter – retweeted the short clip, noting how he thinks he’s “a natural on camera.”

Currently, the priority isn’t for Cine nor Evans to be sensational reporters (though it’d be great if they do develop this skill moving forward). Nay, the focus is on developing into a sensational safety and corner who can improve Minnesota’s secondary for years to come.

Some of the recent focus has been on how little Cine has played so far. As the Chris Tomasson tweet suggests, the young safety has a good perspective on the situation.

Don’t forget that Cine had to overcome an early injury before getting back into the lineup. Plus, Josh Metellus is a good player, someone who has been a great contributor on special teams for a little while. His strong play on defense shouldn’t be a surprise.

As the season continues to progress, Lewis Cine and Akayleb Evans will likely become increasingly important for the Vikings. The thinking is simply that more experience will help them to take on more responsibility. Hopefully, the greater time on the field can coincide with a continued commitment off the field.

And, perhaps, they may even be able to continue refining their reporting skills.
