Veteran Corner Rumored to Minnesota Signs Elsewhere

Since Ed Donatell was announced as the DC, Vikings fans and writers have connected the dots with some of his former players. Might the veteran coach look to reunite with some previous talent? Kyle Fuller – the former Chicago Bear and Denver Bronco – is one example.

That hypothetical is no longer an option. The veteran opted for the Ravens:

Fuller, a Baltimore native, was a two-time Pro Bowler for the Bears in 2018 and 2019. He was also an All-Pro in 2018, leading the league with seven interceptions and 21 passes defensed.

Last year, he appeared in 16 games with 10 starts for the Broncos, recording four passes defensed and three tackles for loss. He was benched at one point, but reclaimed a starting role down the stretch.

The 14th overall pick of the 2014 draft, Fuller has 19 career interceptions and 86 passes defensed in 112 games with 104 starts. He missed the 2016 season due to a knee injury.

Truth be told, Kyle Fuller may not have been a great option for the Vikings. At one time, he was one of the better corners in the NFL, but it looks like those days are gone. One of my main takeaways from The Donatell Diary is that Fuller really struggled last season. He consistently put the Broncos defense in a tough spot.

As it stands, Minnesota heads into the season with a certain degree of corner confusion. Will anyone emerge as a true CB1? Who will start in the slot? Is the team expecting too much from young players?

As far as I can tell, the team is planning on Patrick Peterson being a rock-solid CB2. The hope is that Cameron Dantzler and/or Andrew Booth Jr. can also be strong. The slot position is the one that offers the most uncertainty, and one wonders if the rookie Booth will push Chandon Sullivan.

Kyle Fuller won’t be providing the Vikings with any defensive reinforcements, but there are some other notable vets still on the free agent market. Perhaps a former Donatell player will find his way to Minnesota.
