Julio Jones to the Vikings Makes No Sense

First of all, there has been no reliable report or source suggesting Julio Jones will be traded to the Vikings. There has just been a bunch of big talk on Twitter about the possibility of a trade between Minnesota and Atlanta, involving Julio Jones, and Harrison Smith or Anthony Barr. Why would the Vikings give up a valuable piece of their defense for a highly paid aging wide receiver? The idea of it seems fun, but it’s absolutely an out of the box, made up scenario, that doesn’t make sense for either team.

Here’s the “scenario” that was created on Twitter,

Now someone with the name Kev (AndrelGOAT Simmons stan) doesn’t seem like a very reliable source, obviously. But it has caused a lot of talk on social media, and there has been certain people that have been taking this seriously. The tweet has over 500 likes and over 100 replies. Let’s just say it’s caused a lot of havoc on Viking’s twitter. But think to yourself, does Rick Spielman seem like a guy who would offer up a Viking’s legend in Harrison Smith in any trade talk? Let alone for a guy who has over a $15M cap hit, and is 32 years old. It dumbfounds me the amount of people who have taken this seriously.

Here’s a more in-depth idea from the gentleman on Twitter,

Yes, it’s silly. It’s fun. The quiet time of the off-season is among us. There will be a lot of “experts” and people with sources for the next a couple months. The Viking’s organization has too many smart people in charge to let this trade happen. It’s just not a scenario that’ll ever happen. At least if someone is going to make something up on Twitter, make it more realistic. Like Aaron Rodgers to the Broncos for a 7th round pick. Everyone would believe that, surely.

It’s a fun concept to think of. Julio Jones teaming up with Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen? Man, the defense would have a lot of preparing to do. Jones is known to be a possession receiver, while Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen are more known as route running specialists. It’s just not likely at all to happen. It make no sense for both sides. The Falcons are eventually going to trade Julio Jones, but it’ll probably be to a more wide receiver needy team. The Falcons will probably receive a king’s ransom for the former superstar wide receiver. But it won’t be from the Vikings.
