Draft Profile: Pat Elflein, C, Ohio State.

Pat Elflein is about as safe a draft pick as you’ll find outside of the first round, the Ohio State University’s centre has so far been one of the more overlooked prospects by draft twitter and various outsiders, but don’t let that fool you – Pat Elflein is one of the best centre prospects in this years draft and should be a steal for some team on day 2.

Elflein has a number of qualities that the Vikings, and any team for that matter, would find attractive. He’s a former team captain who’s had success playing almost every position on the Ohio State line. He has a tenacious work ethic and will outwork anyone.

Elflein’s success is in large part due to his fantastic build, he has a wide strong base that he uses to anchor and drive defender forwards to not allow pressure. He’s able to create push up the middle in the run game and can anchor against rushers in the pass play. Elflein furthermore has large strong hands that allows him to control defenders and stick to them, thus not allowing many defensive players to get past him.

While Elflein isn’t gonna be a combine star he is more athletic than most realise, his blue collar work ethic and nasty attitude will likely be able to succeed at almost any team in the NFL. He’d be able to step in at both centre and guard and help the line right away, and should at least be not he Vikings radar heading into the draft season.
