Chris Simms Continues to Praise Kellen Mond

For the foreseeable future, Vikings’ fans will be wondering how good Kellen Mond will eventually be. Is he the next big thing? Or is he the next Christian Ponder. We will more than likely not know the answer until at least the 2022 season with Kirk Cousins continuing to be the Vikings starting quarterback. Many experts believe Kellen Mond has all the tools to be a starting quarterback in this league, but it will take some time to develop him. One analyst, who is very high on Mond, is NBC Sports’ Chris Simms.

Simms went on the record to put Kellen Mond as his fourth ranked quarterback prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft, just behind Lawrence, Wilson and Mac Jones, and notably ahead of Justin Fields and Trey Lance. Simms went on to say,

His throwing is special…I think, as pure throwers right now, when you just talk to me about. ‘Man, they can stripe it and throw perfect strikes every time,’ (Zach) Wilson, Mac Jones and Kellen Mond to me are more machines than Trevor Lawrence is at this point. Mond has a really quick release,” Simms said.

It’s an eye popping statement from the former NFL quarterback. Who has had his share of spot on takes with other intriguing prospects such as Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen. Simms does seem to know what he is talking about as he does deep dives into each of these quarterback’s games.

Simms continued his praise of Mond by saying,

“First off, every throw he makes is bullseye. It’s a rocket arm. He doesn’t need space in the pocket. Mond can throw with pressure in the pocket. He never really misses a throw in general, altogether.”

Those are very bold statements referring to a 3rd round selection. If Mond can live up to Simms’ hype, the Vikings have gotten an absolutes steal in this year’s draft. Mond has all the tools to be a franchise quarterback, and Chris Simms is all in on him becoming one.

Simms Impressed with Viking’s Selection

After the Vikings made the selection of Kellen Mond with the 66th pick in the 3rd round, Simms went to Twitter to say this,

Simms was more than excited to see the Vikings take Kellen Mond in the 3rd round. This was a low-risk, high-reward selection for the Minnesota Vikings that could very well alter the quarterback position in the Twin Cities. Like we mentioned before, Mond has a lot to work on to better himself as an NFL quarterback. Klint Kubiak and new quarterback’s coach Andrew Janocko will love to get their hands on Mond as soon as he arrives in Eagan. This could be an exciting time for Minnesota Vikings’ fans.
