Bleacher Report Suggests Vikings Should Trade Patrick Peterson

The chances of Minnesota trading away Patrick Peterson are very small. He’ll be relied upon to be one of Minnesota’s top corners. It’s plausible that he ends up taking over as the CB3 since Cameron Dantzler might shine and Andrew Booth Jr. could be ready to take on a prominent role. Nevertheless, the suggestion that Minnesota would be wise to move on Peterson seems like a long shot.
The BR article offers a trade suggestion for each NFL team. While many teams are looking to bring talent in, Minnesota’s blurb pivots into a discussion about who should be sent out. The advice is for Kwesi Adofo-Mensah to accept a 6th from Arizona to send Patrick Peterson back to his former team:
Instead of acquiring new talent, the Minnesota Vikings would be best served by opening an opportunity for one of their young players to emerge.

By addiung [sic] Andrew Booth Jr. in the second round, the Vikings rendered Peterson expendable. Meanwhile, Cameron Dantzler is an up-and-coming young talent coming off his best season yet, and Peterson turns 32 in July. Playing Peterson in his declining years brings almost little value.
Instead, Minnesota should reunite Peterson with his former franchise in Arizona. The Cardinals need help at cornerback but have limited cap space to make a deal. This trade would clear $2.38 million for the Vikings.
Folks, this one isn’t going to happen. Kwesi Adofo-Mensah just signed Peterson to a one-year deal that comes with a cap number just above $3.1 million. Part of what brought the 2022 cap hit down was the decision to tack on a void year for 2023. Borrowing from the future cap and then not even keeping him on the roster to begin the season would be an issue. Plus, the suggested compensation is a mere sixth rounder.
Patrick Peterson, unless there’s an injury, will be on the team. He’s a veteran who can helps mentor Booth, Dantzler, Akayleb Evans, and the rest of the corners. Dantzler and Booth both have a history of injuries, so keeping Peterson would be smart. It’s also worth keeping in mind that he’s still a good player. Not great, but good. Perhaps the Donatell scheme will benefit the veteran who has been so vocal about his desire to play in Minnesota.
So, don’t plan on seeing a Peterson trade unless there’s far more compensation that a sixth-round pick.
