It takes two to tango, as they say. With the draft nearing, it’s increasingly looking like the Vikings may be open to moving back. The needs are several, so moving the 12th selection for lower-but-still-high selections makes some sense.

Not too long ago, I put out a feeler on Twitter asking the purple faithful what they’d think about seeing the #12 pick get shipped to Kansas City in exchange for 29th and 30th:

Since that time, others have explored similar ideas. Take a look at this one from Charles Goldman, who covers Kansas City:

Goldman’s suggestion, at least to my small football mind, is less appealing. Having two first-rounders – and therefore two fifth-year options – is something the Vikings ought to pursue. Inevitably, a player or two slides into the late first who has no business dropping so low. Over these past two drafts, the Vikings have selected Justin Jefferson and Christian Darrisaw in the 20s, so I shouldn’t need to remind fans that there can be legit talent available at this stage in the draft.

Kansas City may feel that they need to add another weapon for Patrick Mahomes. Tyreek Hill is no longer in town, so one wonders if the Chiefs are targeting one of this year’s best young receivers. Might jumping to #12 be worth it for Andy Reid and Brett Veach? Chris Olave, Jahan Dotson, Garrett Wilson, Drake London, and many more are all highly regarded.

To be clear, the Vikings draft rumors extend beyond just Twitter chatter. There have been reports out there about the Saints, Chargers, Steelers, and Cowboys all looking to move up. Heck, Jerry Jones even said so in a recent interview.

Fans would be wise to keep their head on a swivel at this stage in the pre-draft process. The rumors will continue intensifying, and recent draft history has involved plenty of trades. Stay tuned.
