Kris Boyd reacts to Zimmer’s Kindergarteners Comment

If there’s one strange dichotomy that exists during the Minnesota Vikings under Mike Zimmer it is that he has been known to play things very close to the chest, while intermittently insulting his players from time to time. It’s like your single uncle getting drunk once a month and ranting on FB about his Tinder experiences.

It was that tendency to throw shade at players on his defense that lead to Zimmer setting a meeting with the recently retired Chad Greenway to find ways to address the “toxic leadership” claim laid out by then recently jettisoned back-up Rhett Ellison’s dad.

Since, Zimmer has mostly kept those comments to himself. That was, of course, until this:

Vikings second-year corner Kris Boyd was asked about that comment recently and said:

“I just be [sic] out there doing my job — playing,” Boyd said in a press conference on Thursday. “I don’t pay attention to him paying attention to us cause we’re out there practicing. If that’s what it seems like to y’all I guess y’all can say that, but I don’t really know.”

While he didn’t say that it upset him, it’s clear he’s not entirely pleased by that comment. Considering how well these guys have stepped up, perhaps another sit down with Greenway is in order?

Things are trending up for this Vikings team, so the last thing we need is a mutiny on behalf of this young defense. Especially considering they’re all risking COVID for our entertainment/Zimmer’s sustained employment, and helping people like me eat crow about my earlier “FIRE ZIMMER” takes, perhaps instead of a sit down Zimmer needs to cut these guys some slack.

Then again, this seems to me to be about as tongue in cheek as Zimmer can get. But it doesn’t seem to have been interpreted that way from Boyd, so, again… This was just a bad comment from Zim in my book.
