Vikings Hire New Rookie WR
The Minnesota Vikings have once again adjusted the back end of the offseason roster. Undrafted rookie pass-rusher Jordan Botelho was fired this week. When announcing the move, the franchise revealed that Oklahoma State’s Terrill Davis would take his spot and join the WR room.
“The Vikings have added a rookie wide receiver, announcing Thursday they’ve signed Terrill Davis out of Oklahoma State,” the Vikings wrote on the team’s website.
The receiver participated in the rookie minicamp with the 49ers and Ravens.
As an undrafted rookie, Davis will compete for a roster spot or a job on the practice squad in his debut season. He’ll have to shine in training camp and the preseason to separate himself from the crowded depth of the wide receiving corps.
Vikings writer Lindsey Young continued, “Davis played 12 games for Oklahoma State in 2025 after transferring from Central Oklahoma. He totaled 29 catches for 373 yards (12.9 average). In his final season for Central Oklahoma, he led all NCAA players regardless of division with 1,609 receiving yards en route to earning Division II All-America honors from the AFCA, The Associated Press and other outlets.”
A wildly productive player in Division II football, Davis couldn’t quite live up to those numbers at Oklahoma State, though it should be noted that their passing attack had problems under center.
Davis is a fascinating prospect as a basketball player who moved to football late in his teenage years, although his size doesn’t indicate a basketball background, as he’s listed at 6’0″ and 195 lbs.
Young added, “Davis didn’t start playing football until his senior year at Choctaw High School (Oklahoma), when he opted to give it a try because basketball gymnasiums were closed during the COVID-19 pandemic. In his first season of football, he helped lead his team to the Class 6A State Championship and was named the 2020 District 6A-II-2 Offensive Player of the Year.”
He wouldn’t be the first basketball player to make the transition. Even some elite NFL players, like Hall of Famer Antonio Gates, started out on the court. Those are mostly tight ends; Davis is not.
The youngster joins a receiving crew that is set at the top with top stars Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, as well as recent signee Jauan Jennings. Tai Felton, a third-rounder from the 2025 draft, has shown his worth on special teams and should have a roster spot secured. Unless any rookie can unseat Myles Price from the return jobs, he’ll also be on the team.
That’s either the entire WR room or the Vikings keep a sixth, who would be found throughout the summer.
Davis faces the competition of various young athletes. Undrafted rookies include Luke Wysong, Marcus Sanders Jr., Shaleak Knotts, and Dillon Bell. Jeshaun Jones and Dontae Fleming return from last year’s practice squad and freak athlete Joaquin Davis was signed a few months ago. He was an undrafted rookie with the Broncos last year.
Terrill Davis, 22, has to stand out among those depth options for Kevin O’Connell to fall in love with his skill set.
