Stick a Fork in ‘Em: A Pair Vikings Theories are Cooked

Lately, the Vikings theories have been common within online football fodder. Some have a greater claim on reality than others.

What has been quite helpful when seeking to discern the truth is the clarity that arrives due to recent pressers and interviews involving Kevin O’Connell and Rob Brzezinski, the top decision makers in Minnesota. Check out a couple Vikings theories that can shuffle from “possibly true” to being “almost certainly false.”

2 Vikings Theories to Retire

No. 1 — Kevin O’Connell is the Vikings’ CEO

Kevin O’Connell is a very important leader. He is, after all, the team’s head coach.

Some have pushed the limits on that authority, though, insisting that he is going to get the final say on contract details, trades, and draft picks (among other important decisions).

Check out how Brzezinski discussed the hypothetical as it relates who gets the tiebreaker during the draft: “You’re hoping that you can have the answers to the test before you’re in the firing line. But there are times, maybe, when issues crop up. And the Wilfs have asked me to handle that in the event that we get into a position like that.”

Quite possibly, Brzezinski looks to O’Connell for guidance and then decides to do what his head coach desires, but the head coach doesn’t officially have the final call. The man who is tasked with operating as the GM — Mr. Brzezinski — has the authority of a GM.

No. 2 — Carson Wentz is Going to Compete to Become the QB1

At no point was the theory particularly persuasive. Some nevertheless insisted that Carson Wentz is going to overcome both of Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy. Nah, that’s not going to happen short of some craziness.

Check out how Tom Pelissero discussed the matter: “They love Carson Wentz, he’s coming in, I think it’s pretty clear as QB3. It’s going to be J.J. McCarthy versus Kyler Murray.”

Note, as well, that O’Connell has discussed the Wentz addition as being about fortifying the depth. O’Connell, the top coach, does have final authority as it relates to the depth chart.

Strange things do happen in the NFL, so there is a scenario where Wentz starts in Week 1. Simply note that a future where Wentz starts is one where something has gone seriously wrong, such as unfortunate injuries.

The Vikings’ plan is to rally around one of Murray or McCarthy. That two-horse race is meant to lead to a clear winner in time for the 2026 Vikings season in September.
