Vikings rumors are still lingering, so we’ll be highlighting some of the purple rumblings.

The “Vikings Rumor Wrangle” is a series that keeps readers informed on what’s being whispered about in Vikings Land. In this iteration, we discuss Minnesota fans expressing jubilee about losing a QB, public enemy No. 1 potentially becoming a Viking, and a Minnesota corner being a bit of a contrarian.

Vikings Rumor #1 — Vikings Fans are Thrilled to Lose a QB

Generally speaking, teams are enthusiastic about the idea of adding a starting-level quarterback. Even better is if the quarterback has won a Super Bowl, won multiple MVP awards, been on the All Pro team several times, and been to the Pro Bowl even more times.

Vikings fans, however, are thrilled that Aaron Rodgers finally found a new home. Or, at least, that’s what the majority seem to believe.

One could make an educated guess and likely arrive at the correct conclusion. Do Vikings fans actually want Rodgers, a declining talent who is in his 40s and who is more disliked than liked? By and large, Vikings fans would opt for a different path.

On PurplePTSD and Vikings Territory, things get a tiny bit more scientific. The sites each offer reader polls. One of them asks about fan happiness to see Rodgers gone. Both of these polls are ongoing, though the results so far are decisive: roughly 90% are happy to see the Hall of Fame passer head to the Steel City.

Time to move ahead with J.J. McCarthy, folks. The sophomore will face Aaron Rodgers in Week 4 in Ireland.

Vikings Rumor #2 — Minnesota Could Turn a Foe Into a Friend

Well, this one has been in the works for a little while. Jaire Alexander, public enemy No. 1 due to his very public rivalry with Justin Jefferson, has finally been allowed to venture into NFL free agency.

The corner is still young, all things considered. He’s a seven-year veteran who is still only 28. Even better is that he has been to the Pro Bowl a pair of times alongside being a second-team All Pro a pair of times. At his best, Alexander is a legitimate CB1, a matchup weapon who can largely neutralize the other team’s best weapon.

At times, he has caused a bit of disgruntlement in Green Bay. Worse yet, he has battled injuries aplenty in recent seasons. Buyer beware.

The caveats aside, the Vikings (likely) could use another corner, especially one capable of high-end play. Slotting a true top corner into the highest spot creates a domino effect, one where the other corners get to fit into matchups that are better suited for their skill set. Can Jaire Alexander be that person? Can he do so at a price that works?

Readers looking for a bit more chatter on the matter can find some in a recent piece on Vikings Territory.

Vikings Rumor #3 — A Vikings Corner Has a Contrarian View

Some think that more corner help is needed (see above for the Jaire Alexander discussion). Mekhi Blackmon is not among them.

The third-year corner is both healthy and confident, as a recent conversation with Darren Wolfson demonstrates. The defender insists that the Vikings “got a real good [defensive backs] room this year.” The corner also indicates that he sees the doubt on Twitter — “a lot of people concerned about our room” — but doesn’t think the critique has merit.

Byron Murphy is the top option, the lone corner who inspires confidence in being capable of operating as a weekly difference maker. Being able to have the strong room that Blackmon discusses is going to involve players like him stepping up.

Seeing Blackmon, Isaiah Rodgers, and Jeff Okudah prove to be starting-level players would back up the word from early June.
