Vikings Ink Another Rookie to a Contract

The Minnesota Vikings began their process of signing their draft picks last week.

On Friday, the Vikings signed all three of Will Reichard, Michael Jurgens, and Levi Drake Rodriguez to their rookie contracts, and now, the Vikings inked another rookie to a contract on Tuesday evening when they signed sixth-round pick Walter Rouse.

The Vikings themselves announced the signing on social media, tweeting, “The #Vikings have signed rookie T Walter Rouse.”

Rouse was the fourth of Minnesota’s seven draft selections back in April, being selected with the 177th overall pick. The offensive tackle spent five seasons playing college football. He was with Stanford from 2019-2022, and then, he transferred to Oklahoma for the 2023 season.

During his time at Stanford, Rouse was a Freshman All-American in 2019 and was named an honorable mention for the All-PAC-12 teams during the 2020 and 2022 seasons.

Rouse is a massive presence on the offensive line at 6’6″ and 322 pounds. During the 2023 season, he played 480 snaps in pass protection and gave up just six pressures and zero sacks.

The offensive tackle position was a very clear need for the Vikings heading into this draft. Prior to the event, they waived Coy Cronk with a non-football injury designation. Because of that decision, Minnesota had just three offensive tackles on their roster: Christian Darrisaw, Brian O’Neill, and David Quessenberry.

Of course, since then, Minnesota has also added a pair of UDFAs to the position in Doug Nester and Spencer Rolland.

Seeing as Darrisaw and O’Neill have gone through some injury troubles over the past couple years, extra security at the position is a must, and Minnesota views Rouse as capable of filling that role.
