Reports Suggest the Vikings Will Start 2024 with a Revenge Game

The NFL’s official regular season schedule release for the 2024 campaign will happen tonight at 7 PM Central.

However, before that event takes place, there have been a number of games revealed, including the Vikings’ London matchup against the New York Jets in Week 5. The latest updates (courtesy of our flag-ship site Vikings Territory) suggest that the Vikings will begin their season on the road in what will be a revenge matchup.

That game comes against the New York Giants, and it is scheduled to take place at MetLife Stadium. Dustin Baker of Vikings Territory wrote on Wednesday, “While the full schedule will be released on Wednesday night, two sources familiar with the schedule tell VikingsTerritory that the Vikings will begin the season on the road at the New York Giants.”

Of course, the Giants were the team to end Minnesota’s playoff run before it could really even begin during the 2022 season. The Vikings fell to New York by a score of 31-24 in the Wild Card round after a magical run to a 13-4 record and NFC North title during the regular season.

Making the loss even more painful was the fact that one of the more memorable of those regular season wins actually came against those same Giants just a few weeks earlier. Greg Joseph hit a 61-yard game-winning field goal to clinch the NFC North crown.

The two teams did not meet during the 2023 regular season, and each of them stumbled through last year’s campaign. New York finished with a 6-11 record while the Vikings finished at 7-10.

Assuming the two teams will meet in Week 1, it could be the debuts for a couple of highly-anticipated rookies for each franchise. The Giants landed star LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers with the sixth overall pick while the Vikings took QB J.J. McCarthy at No. 10.

With Kirk Cousins no longer in the picture for the Vikings, the QB battle is on in Minnesota this summer between McCarthy and Sam Darnold. Meanwhile, the Giants are going to have to figure out their running game this year without Saquon Barkley around.

If this game is indeed going to be Minnesota’s season opener, it will take place on Sunday, September 8th.
