Aaron Rodgers Is Heading into Total Darkness This Offseason
Aaron Rodgers has always been one of the quirkier characters in the NFL universe. Whether it’s an ayahuasca retreat or some philosophical thoughts during his weekly appearances on The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers remains an interesting personality if nothing else.
Now, during his latest appearance on McAfee’s show, Rodgers revealed his latest offseason quest. It turns out, Rodgers is heading into total darkness in the coming weeks where he won’t see any light for four consecutive days and nights.
Rodgers said of this isolation retreat that he has “had a number of friends who’ve done it, and they’ve had profound experiences.” The retreat, in Rodgers’ description, involves going into a small house by himself, living in total darkness, and having people bring food from the outside. If he feels he cannot make it through the four days, he is able to leave at any time.

The Packers QB described this period of darkness as “an opportunity to do a little self-reflection in some isolation, and after that, I feel like I’ll be a lot closer to that final, final decision.”
That “final decision” Rodgers refers to is the choice between continuing his NFL career and where he would want to play. Once again, he also discussed retirement with McAfee, and amidst some speculation that he wouldn’t want to retire in the same offseason as Tom Brady and J.J. Watt, Rodgers said that the idea of him not wanting to share the stage with those players is “ridiculous.”
Overall, it appears we are still weeks away from Green Bay’s longtime quarterback making a decision regarding his future, but perhaps the retreat will help him decide what he wants to do in 2023.
