Ahead of the Jets/Vikings Sunday matchup as part of the Week 13 slate of NFL games, both New York and Minnesota have released their lists of inactive players. For the Vikings the list is as expected, including six players. The full list is as follows:

  • OLB Luiji Vilain
  • OT Vederian Lowe
  • OT Christian Darrisaw
  • TE Ben Ellefson
  • DL Esezi Otomewo
  • DL Ross Blacklock

While somewhat disappointing, the absence of Christian Darrisaw at left tackle was expected for much of the week. The star second-year player did not practice this week due to the concussion he suffered against the Dallas Cowboys. In his stead, Blake Brandel is likely to make his second start of the season.

Another inactive is TE Ben Ellefson, who was activated from IR this week, but he continues rehabbing the groin injury that he suffered in Week 4. He won’t play this week, but he appears to be part of the Vikings plans moving forward into the final portions of the season.

Finally, DL Ross Blacklock won’t play due to an illness that he came down with during the latter stretch of the week. He did not practice on either Thursday or Friday because of this. The absence of Blacklock would be much more notable if Dalvin Tomlinson weren’t returning to the field, but with the veteran back in his usual starting spot, the Vikings can probably deal without Blacklock this week.

As for the Jets, they will also be without six players on Sunday. Here’s their full list of inactives:

  • QB Zach Wilson
  • WR Jeff Smith
  • TE Jeremy Ruckert
  • RB Michael Carter
  • S Ashtyn Davis
  • CB Bryce Hall

The notable absences for the Jets come on the offensive side of the ball. QB Zach Wilson has been benched for the second consecutive game, meaning the Vikings will in fact go against Mike White. It is Minnesota’s fourth time going up against backup QBs this season.

They also don’t have RB Michael Carter for this game as he rehabs an ankle injury. This is an area where New York was already thin after losing breakout rookie Breece Hall for the season. Today, look for James Robinson to likely get the majority of the touches out of New York’s backfield.

New York does have good news in terms of injuries as well, though. Starting defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins is not listed on as inactive for the Jets, meaning he is likely to return to the field for the first time since Week 9. In New York’s first nine games, Rankings recorded 25 tackles and a pair of sacks, and he is a major contributor to the Jets run defense.

Both teams look to be at least closer to full health on the defensive front, so the winner will probably be decided by who can dominate the trenches more. These groups have been stout run defenses all season long, so this will be an interesting battle in that area of the field.

Kickoff is scheduled for 12 PM CST.
