Q: Will Kellen Mond see the field in Cleveland during the 2022 season?

A: No.

If you consider Deshaun Watson as still a part of the depth chart, Kellen Mond is the Browns QB4. Jacoby Brissett is the QB1 for 11 weeks, while Watson serves his suspension. After Watson and Brissett, it’s Joshua Dobbs on the depth chart.

Mond isn’t ready to play in the regular season, and the Browns know it. Like his role on the Vikings, he’s their developmental quarterback.

Q: Do you think it’s possible the Vikings sign Sheldon Richardson with Armon Watts now playing for the Bears?

A: Possible — not probable.

Signing Richardson at this juncture would be the “Spielman-Zimmer” thing to do. Indeed, Richardson is an adept and versatile defensive lineman, but his possible free agency symbolizes the old way of doing things.

The Vikings are likely content with newcomer-from-Houston Ross Blacklock — or they’ll pull the trigger on Ndamukong Suh. If they wanted Richardson, they would’ve signed him by now. They’ve had over five months to decide [if they considered him at all]

Q: Why did they release Ihmir Smith-Marsette!?!?

A: The only explanation is that Vikings fans and writers overvalued him.

He seemed to play a lot in the preseason while the other big-name WRs rested. Perhaps that was the first signal. In all likelihood, the Vikings new leadership regime hopes Smith-Marsette clears waivers and lands back with Minnesota on the practice squad. But that’s risky business, evidenced by the Harrison Hand waiver last week.

Put simply — the Vikings front office and coaches apparently don’t value Smith-Marsette as much as you.
