Some of the Goofy Stats from the Vikings Historic Comeback

On Saturday with the entire NFL world watching, the Minnesota Vikings followed up a sorry first half effort with the greatest comeback in NFL history. It was a terrific way to celebrate the 1000th game in franchise history, and there are some very goofy stats from the Vikings historic comeback to discuss. Here’s just a few of them.

- The Colts Scored 1 Offensive Touchdown – The Vikings defense wasn’t great in the first half, per se, but they were hardly the only group to blame for the Vikings falling down 33-0 at halftime. The Colts had 14 points off defensive and special teams on Saturday, and they only scored once on a drive where they started behind their own 30-yard line. Amidst a disastrous first half, this was not a bad effort by the defense, and then it was capped off by a terrific second half.
- Kirk Cousins 417 Passing Yards in the 2nd Half/OT Would Be the 8th Most in a Game for His Career – Kirk Cousins put together a masterful showing in the second half and overtime of this game, and if you took those numbers into account, it would account for a top-10 game in his entire career. His 460 total passing yards in this game is the highest total of his career, and the Vikings needed every single one of them.
- Kirk Cousins is the 8th QB to Pass for 425+ Yards in Consecutive Games – The Vikings may only be 1-1 over the past two games, with losses to the Lions and the greatest comeback ever against the lowly 4-9-1 Colts, but Kirk Cousins has been historic over a course of six days. Only eight QBs have produced at the same level as Kirko, and if he puts up another 425-yard game against the Giants he’d tie Dak Prescott for the longest such streak in NFL history.
- Teams Are Now 2-103 When Trailing by 20+ Points at Halftime in the Last 8 Years. Kirk Cousins and the Vikings Have Both Wins – Can we officially say no lead is safe when a team is going against the great Kirk Cousins? There have now been 105 occurrences where a team has trailed by 20+ points at halftime. Kirk Cousins has the only two wins in NFL history. They are this Saturday against the Colts, and 2019’s 20-point comeback against the Broncos.
- Matt Ryan Now Has the Largest Blown Leads in Super Bowl History and NFL History – Poor Matt Ryan. Overall, it’s been a pretty strong career for the now-aging quarterback. An MVP award and a Super Bowl appearance are certainly nothing to scoff at. However, amidst all the positives from his career, the two most memorable games with be of his teams blowing some of the largest leads in NFL history.
