Over the last two days, the Minnesota Vikings have made a flurry of moves to get their roster down from 80 players all the way to 53. Through a series of cuts and trades, the Vikings officially got there by the 3 PM deadline on Tuesday, so without further ado, here is the first 53-man roster for your 2022 Minnesota Vikings.

Immediately upon being traded, Hill had already secured a new contract that made him one of football’s highest-paid receivers. It appeared the contract was the sticking point for Kansas City. They weren’t willing to shell out a four-year, $120 million contract for the six-time Pro Bowl receiver. While business is business, Hill seems to feel bitter about how Kansas City moved on, despite calling his time with the Chiefs a great situation.” uploaddate=”2022-08-30″ thumbnailurl=”https://cdn.brid.tv/live/partners/17660/snapshot/1086937_sd_1661882471.jpg” contentUrl=”https://cdn.brid.tv/live/partners/17660/streaming/1086937/1086937.m3u8″ width=”16″ height=”9″]

Quarterbacks (2)

Who’s In: Kirk Cousins, Nick Mullens

Who’s Out: Sean Mannion, Kellen Mond

When the Vikings traded for Nick Mullens, this seemed to be the way things were going to turn out at QB. That said, there seems to be a chance that the Vikings could bring back Sean Mannion on the practice squad.

Running Backs (5)

Who’s In: Ty Chandler, Dalvin Cook, C.J. Ham, Alexander Mattison, Kene Nwangwu

Who’s Out: Bryant Koback

The running back position was a topic of great debate ahead of Tuesday’s deadline. The Vikings do in fact keep all five of Chandler, Cook, Ham, Mattison, Nwangwu, though it does appear they are listening to trade offers on Mattison.

Wide Receivers (5)

Who’s In: Justin Jefferson, Jalen Nailor, KJ Osborn, Ihmir Smith-Marsette, Adam Thielen

Who’s Out: Dan Chisena, Trishton Jackson, Olabisi Johnson, Myron Mitchell

In order to keep a fifth RB, the Vikings trimmed their wide receiver room down by one, cutting special teams ace Dan Chisena.

Tight End (3)

Who’s In: Ben Ellefson, Johnny Mundt, Irv Smith Jr.

Who’s Out: Zach Davidson, Nick Muse

Another room that shaped out exactly as predicted. Assuming Irv Smith comes back healthy for week 1, it seems that the Vikings are content with running their three tight ends out there in 2022.

Offensive Line (10)

Who’s In: Garrett Bradbury (C), Blake Brandel (T), Ezra Cleveland (G), Christian Darrisaw (T), Ed Ingram (G), Vederian Lowe (T), Brian O’Neill (T), Chris Reed (G/C), Austin Schlottmann (G/C), Oli Udoh (G)

Who’s Out: Jesse Davis (trade), Wyatt Davis, Kyle Hinton, Timon Parris, Josh Sokol

The most notable move along the offensive line came in the trade of Jesse Davis to the Pittsburgh Steelers. This ensures that Ed Ingram has won the right guard job, and it opened up another spot on the o-line, which was snagged by rookie tackle Vederian Lowe.

Interior Defensive Line (6)

Who’s In: Ross Blacklock (trade), Jonathan Bullard, James Lynch, Esezi Otomewo, Harrison Phillips, Dalvin Tomlinson

Who’s Out: T.Y. McGill, T.J. Smith, Jullian Taylor, Jaylen Twyman, Armon Watts

After T.Y. McGill was put on season-ending IR on Monday, that opened the floodgates for the Vikings offensive line. The most surprising moves of the day came in this area of the field as Minnesota cut Armon Watts and acquired Ross Blacklock in a trade with Houston.

Outside Linebackers (5)

Who’s In: Danielle Hunter, Patrick Jones II, Za’Darius Smith, Luiji Vilain, D.J. Wonnum

Who’s Out: Zach McCloud, Janarius Robinson

The Vikings kept the four usual suspects, but they managed to find an extra roster spot to keep one of their young guys around. The new regime opted for Luiji Vilain over 2021 fourth-round pick Janarius Robinson.

Off-Ball Linebackers (4)

Who’s In: Brian Asamoah, Troy Dye, Jordan Hicks, Eric Kendricks

Who’s Out: William Kwenkeu, Blake Lynch, Chazz Surratt

Once again, the Vikings trimmed down an extra spot in this area so they could keep an additional pass rusher. Blake Lynch was cut from the off-ball linebacker group in addition to William Kwenkeu and Chazz Surratt.

Cornerbacks (6)

Who’s In: Andrew Booth Jr., Kris Boyd, Cam Dantzler Sr., Akayleb Evans, Patrick Peterson, Chandon Sullivan

Who’s Out: Nate Hairston, Harrison Hand, Parry Nickerson

Unlike the 2021 Los Angeles Rams, the 2022 Minnesota Vikings keep a surplus of cornerbacks on the roster.

Safeties (4)

Who’s In: Camryn Bynum, Lewis Cine, Josh Metellus, Harrison Smith

Who’s Out: Mike Brown, Myles Dorn

I thought Myles Dorn might have done enough in the preseason finale to stick around the Vikings 53-man roster, but it appears that will not be the case. He could garner some interest from other teams.

Special Teams (3)

Who’s In: Andrew DePaola (LS), Greg Joseph (K), Ryan Wright (P)

Who’s Out: N/A

After Jordan Berry was cut, there were very little options for surprises on the special teams group. Everything stays as-is for the first roster.
