On Tuesday, teams needed to get their rosters from 80 to 53. As a result, it was a chaotic day for the NFL. I’ve put forth a couple pieces covering the former Vikings who were cut so that Minnesota fans can follow the careers of players who used to play for their favorite team. This piece also aims to provide some info on former Vikings who were cut.

To follow the cuts, I’ve relied on the NFL cut tracker. Similar to past versions, I’ve relied on info from PFR to help provide a brief summary of these players’ purple careers. In no way should the small blurbs be understood as a complete breakdown of their careers. Rather, they’re meant to be a concise reminder of some of the details from their time with the Vikings.

Finally, I’ll caution that I’m not going to be including every former Viking. Instead, these are some players who stood out to me as notable cuts. Anthony Harris certainly deserves to be on the list, but I discussed that cut a little bit in a different piece, so his name isn’t included.

Laquon Treadwell, WR

Treadwell was a first-round pick in the 2016 Draft. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out in Minnesota. He was with the Vikings from 2016-19. In those four years, Treadwell had 65 catches, 701 yards, and 2 TDs. After leaving the Vikings, Treadwell played for Atlanta and Jacksonville.

Eric Wilson, LB

He came into the NFL as an UDFA. He played for Minnesota from 2017-20. He started 15 games in 2020, a season where he accumulated 122 tackles, 3 INTs, 3 sacks, and 2 FRs. He played for Philadelphia and Houston in 2021.

Jalyn Holmes, DE

Holmes was chosen by the Vikings in the fourth round of the 2018 Draft. At 6’5, 283, he has great size for a defensive end. He played for Minnesota for 3 seasons, with the high point coming in 2020 when he got the chance to start 9 games. He only had 1 sack in his 3 years with the Vikings.

Jake Browning, QB

Browning competed for the Vikings’ backup job last offseason. The team instead opted for Sean Mannion and Kellen Mond as the two backups. His most recent opportunity came with the Bengals, but they decided to cut him.

MyCole Pruitt, TE

A fifth-round choice in the 2015 Draft, Pruitt was with the Vikings for 2015 and part of 2016. After leaving Minnesota, he spent some time in Chicago and Houston before settling in in Tennessee. He played for the Titans from 2018-21. As a Viking, Pruitt had 11 catches for 96 yards.

I’ll conclude by reiterating that much more can be said about these players.

Moreover, we should remember that the initial drop to 53 doesn’t mean all the rosters are finished. Rather, it signals the first attempt to get the full teams together. Teams will continue tweaking things throughout the year.

Hopefully, the former Vikings get a chance to find work for the 2022 NFL season.

This is a group that struggled under former head coach Brian Flores a season ago. Miami needed more production out of its backfield to help young quarterback Tua Tagovailoa succeed under center.Mere months after signing Michel, the Dolphins have ended this experience. Ahead of roster cut-down day, Miami has surprisingly opted to release Michel.” uploaddate=”2022-08-30″ thumbnailurl=”https://cdn.brid.tv/live/partners/17660/snapshot/1086927_sd_1661880449.jpg” contentUrl=”https://cdn.brid.tv/live/partners/17660/streaming/1086927/1086927.m3u8″ width=”16″ height=”9″]
