Rookie TE Gets the Call to the Vikings Active Roster

So far this season, the Minnesota Vikings have not been able to find consistent play at the tight end position. Between Irv Smith and Johnny Mundt, there have been a number of big plays left on the field with dropped passes. These inconsistencies caused the Vikings to turn to Ben Ellefson at times, especially in Week 3 against the Detroit Lions where Ellefson set career-highs in receptions (2) and yards (24).
However, Ellefson will not be an option for the remainder of October as the Vikings have moved him to IR on Saturday afternoon. The tight end spent the final two days of practice on the injury report this week with a groin injury.
Following the move, Minnesota activated rookie TE Nick Muse to the Vikings active roster rather than Jacob Hollister, who Minnesota signed on September 27th.
Muse played his collegiate ball with the South Carolina Gamecocks before the Vikings selected him in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Over the course of three seasons, Muse recorded 67 receptions, 805 receiving yards, and 3 TDs at South Carolina.
During preseason, Muse appeared in all three exhibition games for the Vikings and played fairly well, thus earning the rookie TE a spot on the Vikings active roster. Vikings QBs targeted him seven times, and he caught four of them for 40 yards.
Coming out of college, Muse earned a reputation for being a speedy player as a receiver. It will be interesting to see if the rookie gets any run on the offense on Sunday.

In addition to bringing up their rookie TE, special teamer Dan Chisena got the call up to the active roster for the first time this season. He may end up replacing rookie Jalen Nailor, who has been on the injury report with a hamstring problem. As expected, the Vikings also elevated safety Myles Dorn in the wake of Lewis Cine’s season-ending leg injury against the Saints last weekend.
The Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings kick off tomorrow at 12 PM CST in U.S. Bank Stadium.
