Jay Glazer has boarded the Vikings hype train.

Recently, he stopped by Minnesota’s training camp. It was during that visit that he took a brief video of himself that he then sent along. Therein, he expresses his belief that Minnesota is going to be much improved in 2022. Take a look:

“I gotta tell you what,” he explains, “I think this team is going to be one of those teams that makes a huge jump this year. If anybody can kind of get the confidence and just get their quarterback to calm down and loosen up a little bit, it’s going to be Kevin O’Connell. So I think he’s going to be huge for Kirk Cousins. I love their position players obviously, their skill players.”

To conclude, Jay Glazer indicates that the Vikings have a shot at being a surprise team: “I think this team is going to surprise some people this year. I like what the Vikings got going on.”

Indeed, much of the optimism comes from O’Connell’s presence and his potential to push Cousins even higher. If successful, Minnesota could reasonably have one of the league’s best offenses. The skill, as Glazer suggests, is formidable, led by Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen, and Dalvin Cook. Supplementing the main players are an impressive collection of skill players: KJ Osborn, Irv Smith Jr., Alexander Mattison, and CJ Ham.

The defense, moreover, also made some notable additions. We’re all enthused to see what Za’Darius Smith can do, but Harrison Phillips, Jordan Hicks, and the upside rookies – Lewis Cine & Andrew Booth Jr. – similarly ought to help Ed Donatell’s group.

Whether all of this optimism leads to more on-field success remains to be seen. All the positive reports don’t mean very much if the Packers still take the division and Minnesota limps to the finish line. For a lot of Vikings fans, the most discouraging outcome would be a humdrum year with a pedestrian record, one that doesn’t lead to a top draft pick while also failing to get them into the postseason.

The optimism from Jay Glazer is a good thing, but the Vikings will need to perform well on Sundays. We’ll get our first chance to see what this team will look like when they take on the Raiders in a few days.
