If you hop over to the schedule on Vikings.com, you’ll see that the Vikings have a preseason game in less than a week. They take on the Raiders this Sunday at 3:25 p.m. The game takes place in Las Vegas.

Obviously, this is an exciting bit of news. The Vikings haven’t played football since January, so it’ll be a welcome change this Sunday.

The Raiders, in many ways, are a fascinating team. Josh McDaniels is their new head coach. The hope is certainly that the long-time OC will be able to push the Raiders offense even higher. Derek Carr has a fascinating deal, one that differs from Kirk Cousins’ in several important areas. Las Vegas has also brought in some great talent during the offseason, most notably Davante Adams. I, for one, am thankful that Minnesota’s DBs don’t have to worry about Adams every time they face the Packers.

Minnesota, meanwhile, has plenty of questions to answer. Off the top of my head, here are some questions we can look forward to during this opening preseason game:

  • How does Garrett Bradbury look on passing downs?
  • Does Dalvin Cook receive any carries?
  • Which depth wide receivers make plays?
  • How long before the rookies take over for the vets, especially in the secondary?
  • Who fills in at MLB once Eric Kendricks and Jordan Hicks head to the bench?

These five points, of course, are by no means an exhaustive list of all things of interest in the Vikings preseason. Rather, it’s a mere sampling of things we’re looking to see. We could also spend plenty of time writing about how Greg Joseph will do, whether Cameron Dantzler looks locked into the CB2 job, and whether the depth tight ends can make plays.

Much of the offseason remains. The Raiders game is just one of three preaseason games for the Vikings. Regardless, it’s notable since it’s the first real game in a while. Vikings fans will thus get their first chance to see what a Kevin O’Connell football team looks like. Personally, I’m more excited to see the different defensive scheme, but I’m fascinated to see it all.

Enjoy the game, Vikings fans. We’ll be offering plenty of coverage to help unpack the main takeaways of the game right here on Purple PTSD.
