Dates to Remember as The Vikings Preseason Arrives

At times, it can be challenging to keep track of all the pertinent dates for the offseason. There are many steps that teams take as they near the regular season, so it’s easy to lose track of important details. As a result, we thought it best to offer this brief piece to ensure Vikings fans have clarity about the dates to remember.

The opening game of the preseason occurs today. It’ll take place in Las Vegas and it’ll begin at 3:25 CT. Below, you’ll find the details for the other two preseason games:

  • 49ers, Saturday, August 20. 6:00 p.m. CT.
  • @ Broncos, Saturday, August 27. 8:00 p.m. CT.

It’s also important to remember that the team will soon need to begin their cuts. A piece on USA Today offers the details:

Teams open camp with a maximum of 90 players of their rosters [sic]. Teams then will trim down to the 53-player regular-season rosters in a series of three cut-down dates in August. On Aug. 16, teams must trim rosters from 90 to 85 players; from 85 to 80 players on Aug. 23, and finally from 80 to 53 players on Aug. 30.

In other words, the team needs to cut 5 players by Tuesday. The next Tuesday will feature 5 more cuts. Finally, the team will bring the roster down to 53 by Tuesday, August 30th.

The first regular season game takes place at U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday, September 11. At 3:25 p.m. CT, the Vikings will look to get the edge in the NFC North by taking down the Packers.
