“A Grown Man Play:” Teammates Praise Cameron Dantzler’s Forced Fumble

Cameron Danztler made arguably the best play of the game when he stripped the ball away from Ihmir Smith-Marsette. In so doing, the third-year corner ensured Justin Fields couldn’t lead the Bears down the field for a score. Cameron Dantzler’s forced fumble was thus a critical play in the 29-22 victory.
Before digging into what his teammates had to say, take a look at the play:
Following the game, several players met with the media to discuss the Bears game. Unsurprisingly, a lot of them had something to say about Cameron Dantzler’s forced fumble.
Veteran corner Patrick Peterson offered a more general assessment of his fellow corner, praising Dantzler for his study habits. Peterson notes that Dantzler has “done a lot of maturing on his own.” He notes that they “watch film together” and that Dantzler’s commitment to learning from the veteran “just goes to show that he’s ready to take his game to the next level.”
DT Harrison Phillips indicated that it was “a grown man play:” “That was incredible. I was telling him that was one of the coolest plays I’ve ever seen, that was awesome. I’m super happy for him, he had a great game. I was right there on the sidelines when he ripped that. That’s a grown man play.”
Justin Jefferson offered some comments on Dantzler trying to strip the ball in practice: “He definitely tried a couple times. They work on that all the time at practice. Just learning on how to go get the ball, stealing the ball, and making big plays at the end of the game. That practice helps a lot.”
Dalvin Tomlinson, a defensive tackle, also offered high praise, explaining, “that’s an effort play right there on defense and for anyone to get back up after they got pushed off, he got back up and then he went and got the ball. That’s what you preach on defense.”
Even Ihmir Smith-Marsette had something to say about Cameron Dantzler’s forced fumble. Of course, the former Vikings WR didn’t offer praise but, rather, disappointment in how the play worked out: “It’s tough. I made a miss in the beginning, I should have just went out of bounds.”
Perhaps it’s fitting to give the final word to Dantzler, who is responsible for the great effort. He was asked about how important he is in Ed Donatell’s defense. Rather than directly speak to his own importance, Dantzler shifted the focus to the defense in its entirety: “All of us are important but I just play my role. Everyone has their job and I just do my job.”
On the final defensive play of the game, Cameron Dantzler did his job excellently. He played every defensive snap on Sunday, and it was the final one that was most important.
