Kirk Cousins Gets Some “Love” as a Fantasy QB

Matthew Berry has been doing a “Love/Hate” article for a little while, but it has usually been at ESPN. He’s now with Rotoworld, providing some fantasy coverage to help people prepare for their drafts. His most recent Love/Hate column featured some praise for Kirk Cousins, whom Berry views as a strong option as a fantasy QB.

A large part of the key, to Berry’s mind, is that Cousins is both consistent and in an offense that will take a step forward. He begins by pointing out that Cousins is one of “six quarterbacks in the NFL who threw at least 30+ touchdown passes each of the last two years.” Shortly thereafter, Berry notes that some of Cousins’ success last season needs to be understood within the context of the 2021 Vikings:

Last season, Cousins was top four in the NFL in terms of games with two or more passing touchdowns and for games with 275 or more passing yards. He did all that while playing for a defensive minded head coach and an offense that was bottom 14 in passing rate.

Kirk Cousins can be a strong fantasy QB because of his consistency, coach, and teammates:

But as a top 12 QB with at least 4,000-plus passing yards in six of his past seven seasons, there is both a floor to Cousins and this year, in what will be a much more pass-happy offense, significant upside, especially considering his ADP of QB15.

Toward the end, Berry predicts 40 touchdowns for Cousins, a total that pretty much any Vikings fan would be happy to see. Cousins has never cleared 40 TD passes in a single season. His current best is 35, which occurred in 2020.

In the same piece, Berry includes Adam Thielen among the receivers whom he loves. The rationale is largely due to Thielen’s touchdown-scoring tendencies. As long the pick isn’t too high, adding Thielen is likely a good choice. Some greater injury luck will allow Thielen to be a strong option in real and fantasy football.

Once the top fantasy QB options are gone, Kirk Cousins may be worth targeting in fantasy leagues. Hopefully, the Kevin O’Connell offense is as explosive as some are forecasting. Thielen may even be able to join the fun, putting together some exemplary statistics even as he gets into his 30s.

Best of luck with your fantasy drafts, folks.
