Both The Vikings and Eagles Have Access to Insider Knowledge

A Breakdown of the Jalen Reagor Trade

The Philadelphia Eagles signed Janarius Robinson. In some people’s minds, that’s a decision that likely has a lot to do with Philadelphia’s upcoming opponent. The Eagles will take on the Vikings on Monday Night Football. As Josh Frey points out, though, the Eagles did need a replacement for Derek Barnett, who is now on the IR.

When I saw the news, I know the first thing I thought was that Robinson may be asked to give some insider knowledge. Take a look at how Will Ragatz of Sports Illustrated discusses things:

The timing here is obviously notable, as the Vikings travel to Philly this week to take on the Eagles on Monday Night Football. In addition to Robinson adding some depth at edge rusher, he’ll be asked to provide as much intel as he can on the Vikings leading into this game.

Now, it’s worth noting that the case for signing Robinson goes beyond merely getting the inside scoop. A year ago, he was a well-regarded draft prospect. He was thus chosen with the 134th pick in the 2021 Draft.

Unfortunately, an injury undermined his rookie season, so he wasn’t able to get onto the field. It was going to be difficult to make the Vikings’ roster in 2022 given the strength of the starting two edge rushers and growth of the other depth players. Moreover, there is a new coaching staff, so there isn’t the same loyalty to a recent draft pick.

The point, folks, is that Robinson may turn into an excellent player. The Eagles had a need at his position, so they decided to make a move.

Does this mean they won’t be asking him for insight on Minnesota’s defensive scheme? Probably not. I imagine there will be some questions about Ed Donatell’s defense. Keep in mind, though, that it’s a two-way street.

Before the year began, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah pulled off a trade for Jalen Reagor, who was drafted by Philadelphia in 2020. That’s a move that was about solidifying the punt returner position, not getting extra insight about how the Eagles might attack the Vikings. One has to think, though, that any insight Reagor can provide would be welcome.

Former Vikings safety Marcus Epps is now with Philadelphia. Also, Josh points out that Tay Gowan, a practice-squad corner for the Vikings, used to be with the Eagles.

The most important thing in determining the game’s outcome on MNF is the performance of the players on the field. Preparation and strategy are vitally important, but it’s the actual play itself that determines who wins and loses. Hopefully, the Vikings can push their record to a pristine 2-0 with another victory over a top NFC team.

The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. CT.
