Mannion, Abdullah Promoted to 53-Man Roster
Our Vikings take on the Bengals today. They’ll have veterans Sean Mannion and Ameer Abdullah available to them.
Abdullah was the cut I was most surprised about. He’s a versatile RB who can help on special teams. I get that there aren’t many carries available with Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison in town, but he ought to have a role in this offense. He could even help remedy the receiver depth, or lack thereof. Don’t be surprised if he ends up getting some touches on offense.
Bringing Mannion off the practice squad is yet another indication that Kellen Mond simply isn’t ready for NFL snaps yet. Mannion brings value given his experience, but his play on the field is less than stellar. We need Kirk to stay healthy and elevate for us to be successful.
Zimmer thinks he has a good team, but he gets that they need to prove it: “I like this team. I think we’ve got some really good talent and we’ve got good guys who work hard and they’re competitive. ” He goes on to note that “now we just have to go out there and prove it.” On Sunday, Zim has his first chance.
Good teams win their winnable games. The Bengals game ought to be supremely winnable, in spite of any predictions from a rookie receiver. If the Vikings take care of what they can control, we’ll head into Week 2 at 1-0.
Enjoy the game, Vikings fans.
